Best Town for Cyclists to Stay in the French Alps

If you know me, you know I love the Tour de France.  It is the biggest and best cycling event of the year. If you love the Tour then you will love the French Alps.  The mountains shape the Tour and give the race its lactate acid flavor.  The mountains stages of the 21 stages of a grand tour are the most exciting part of the race.  It is amazing to see it.

So the best town and house to stay in the French Alps, is Annecy, France.  The Tour is amazing.  It is called the Venice of the Alps because it has canals that run through the town.  It is also on Lac Annecy and during the summer it has a beautiful beach.  It is the cleanest lake in Europe and you can go swimming in it.

For cyclist, it is a gold mind.  You are in the Alps.  The lake and City are flanked by the mountains.  There is also a hostel there that you can work for and you don’t need to speak French.  I worked there for two months.  Two blocks one mile from the hostel is the Seynold.  It is an HC climb with ramps of 10% for km.  It goes up to 1,700 meters and it is plenty hard.

Also, there is a nice 30-mile bike trail that goes around the lake and there is a bike trail that goes to Albertville.  You can easily bike to the Comet De Roseland, Col de la Madeline (my favorite), and many others all on bike trails.  Annecy is easy to get to because it is only 20 miles outside of Geneva Switzerland.  It is the best city on the planet.  Highly suggest you go visit.
